From the skillful use of pens and pencils in the hands of Italo Lupi, Giancarlo Iliprandi, Erik Spiekermann and Matthew Carter, to the inks and brushes of calligrapher James Clough; from the material nature of colors used by Alek Jordan to the collages from Atelier Vostok; from the playful use of paper by Fanette Mellier to the digital sketches of Esther Lee: 367 original drawings and sketches from 108 of the most influential Italian and international graphic artists tell the story of the complex and varied world of graphic arts in its primitive state, before the mouse and the computer.

«The Hand of the Graphic Designer» resumes the cycle of initiatives that Italy's National Trust, FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano), has devoted to the world of design. Conceived and curated by Francesca Serrazanetti and Matteo Schubert along with graphics expert Pietro Corraini, the exhibit follows the great success of «The Hand of the Architect» in 2009 and «The Hand of the Designer» in 2010. Like with past events, a selection of the exhibited works will be sold at auction by Sotheby's at Villa Necchi Campiglio. The proceeds will be used for maintenance of the Villa, a Milanese architectural treasure, and the restoration of several ancient texts in the historical library of Castello di Masino.

This year's exhibit will also be accompanied by a new publication by Moleskine that contains all the exhibited works: red cover, A4 format, along with a sketchbook with 120 blank pages. The book is dedicated to Bob Noorda, one of the main figures responsible for the renewal of Italian graphic arts. Available now at the FAI bookstore in Milan, at the Moleskine Store, and in bookstores and select design stores around the world in July.

К книге прилагается журнал для записей и собственных набросков на 120 страниц формата A4 от Moleskine. Переплет журнала: мягкий. Страницы: нелинованные.
